ACS408   Optimisation and Search   (10 credits)

Year Running: 2015/2016
Credit level: F7

Description

This module introduces students to methods and algorithms for numerical search and optimisation that can be applied to a wide range of engineering problems. The module will begin with traditional approaches drawn from the operations research (OR) community, before moving on to more recent developments in heuristic methods (e.g. evolutionary algorithms) and multi-objective optimisation. Students will engage with the processes of problem formulation and choice/configuration of optimiser, required for effective solution of real-world engineering optimisation problems.
